Unusual association between renal tubular acidosis and Chilaiditi syndrome: a case report.

چکیده
In 1911 Demetrius Chilaiditi described the radiographic findings of hepatodiaphragmatic interposition of the colon in 3 cases, a syndrome which now bears his name [1]. The incidence of this anomaly in the general population ranges from 0.025% to 0.28% [2–4]. Typically this is an incidental radiographic finding, often asymptomatic; however, abdominal pain, distension, vomiting, anorexia, constipation have been reported in the clinical presentation of this rare syndrome [5,6]. Volvulus of the colon, post-necrotic cirrhosis, obesity, congenital hemihypertrophy, mental retardation, pulmonary lobectomy and upper endoscopy are reported to be associated with Chilaiditi syndrome [5–11]. We report the first case of Chilaiditi syndrome caused by adynamic ileus resulting from hypokalaemia induced by renal tubular acidosis.

PROLONGED PARALYSIS AS AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF RENAL TUBULAR ACIDOSIS
A case of renal tubular acidosis (RTA) who had gradual onset of paralysis of lower extremities and persisted for a long time is presented. His primary workups were mistaken for muscular dystrophy. Eventually, an abdominal ultrasonography revealed small stones in both of the kidneys and his workup for the stones were in favor of distal renal tubular acidosis and advanced rickets with hypokal...
متن کاملDistal Renal Tubular Acidosis with Grade 4 Vesicoureteral Reflux in a Child with Single Kidney
Introduction Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a non-uremic defects of urinary acidification. It is characterized by a normal anion gap hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis; plasma potassium may be normal, low or high-depending on the type of RTA. These syndromes differ from uremic acidosis which is associated with a high anion gap, decreased glomerular filtration with enhanced proton secretion b...
متن کاملHypokalemic quadriparesis and rhabdomyolysis as a rare presen-tation of distal renal tubular acidosis
Distal renal tubular acidosis is a syndrome of abnormal urine acidification and is characterized by hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia, hypercalciurea, nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis. Despite the presence of persistent hypokalemia, acute muscular paralysis is rarely encountered in males. Here, we will report an eighteen year old male patient who presented with flaccid quadrip...
متن کاملSecondary Sjogren's syndrome and scleroderma presenting as renal tubular acidosis.
We report a case of distal renal tubular acidosis in a twenty year old female patient of scleroderma and secondary Sjogren's syndrome. This patient presented with two episodes of flaccid quadriparesis which were associated with hypokalaemia and was later found to have an underlying scleroderma with secondary Sjogren's syndrome.
متن کاملHyperammonaemia with distal renal tubular acidosis.
The case is reported of an infant with hyperammonaemia secondary to severe distal renal tubular acidosis. A clinical association between increased concentrations of ammonia in serum and renal tubular acidosis has not previously been described. In response to acidosis the infant's kidneys presumably increased ammonia synthesis but did not excrete ammonia, resulting in hyperammonaemia. The patien...
